QLD Titles : SUP Downwind Race

Event:  Downwind Race QLD State Titles
Date:  11 February 2012
Location:   Sandgate Beach on Flinders Parade, Sandgate, Brisbane (between 6th and 7th Avenue

Course:  Start: Suttons Beach, Redcliffe  to Sandgate Beach  (13 km) northerly wind OR
Start: Nudgee Beach to Sandgate Beach  (10 km) southerly wind

The event is based in Moreton Bay, between the coastline and Tangalooma Island. The Sandgate foreshore is buzzy recreation area and the ideal location for viewing the SUP race finish.  There is also excellent viewing for spectators from vantage points all along from the Nudgee to Sandgate.

Competitors enter the water at Suttons Beach and paddle along the coast to Sandgate Beach, Sandgate, Brisbane.  Start race time is 11.30 am and finish approximately 1 pm. 

Spectators can also chat to exhibitors, view the latest SUP boards, clothing and equipment

Free board testing and demonstrations will be provided by exhibitors.  Free learn to SUP clinics will be held throughout the day courtesy of Surf Connect, the local learn to SUP school.  The clinics are open to the general public.   Brisbane Stand Up Paddle Club, the local SUP Club is hosting the event and will be providing information on how to join the club.

Exhibitor tents will be set up from 8 am.  Food, sausage sizzle also available making it a great day out
Free entry for spectators.   Evening dinner 7 pm at the Full Moon Hotel, 18 Eagle Tce, Sandgate.  There is a range of meals to purchased to suit your budget,  or just come along for the fun.  

Divisions
Open’s – Men & Women
Senior’s – Men & Women (Age: 45 and over)
Junior’s – Boys & Girls (Age: under 18)
Age at 31st December of the year event is held

Classes
14 foot and over unlimited (rudders allowed)
14 foot and under (fixed fins)
12 foot 6 inch

Prizes
1st prize. $1,000 cash.  All mens/boys divisions. First across the line on 14ft and under board. Donated by ASI - the world leader in SUP education and accreditation.

Trophies for 1st, 2nd & 3rd for respective divisions and classes.

Presentations: 2.30 pm

Fee: $40 (one division).  $15 (extra division)

Entry Conditions & Safety
Entry is open. 
Membership:  Must be a SUPA member or a SUPA affiliated club member.

Lifejackets are recommended.
Leg-rope is mandatory - worn at all times during the race.
You need to consider/plan your personal hydration and nutrition requirements.

Accommodation
Where to stay around Sandgate.   Short & long term accommodation available, as well as airport or train station pick up. Sandgate train station is a 33minutes ride direct from the City, and Sandgate Beach is only about 10 minutes slow walk from the station. Average rates of accommodation we can arrange for you in the area:

$30 per night in shared room
$90 per night your own room for single occupancy, $100 per night for double occupancy
$160 per night 2 bedroom self-contained unit sleeps up to 6 (2 dbl, 2 sgl beds, air-con, Foxtel)
2 bed-room unit is priced for upto 4 person. Additional guests $15 a night.
